Text Box: Ohio’s regulations for taxidermists are few and easy to follow

You need to have a vendor’s license and charge sales tax. You can get this at your county courthouse. The state will then send you information as to how often you need to send your sales tax in. Usually 2 times a year.
You need to keep records of all game brought into your shop to mount on ODNR Record sheets. You can get these from your local game warden. All game being stored must be marked as well so that it can be identified.
If you do any ducks or geese you need a Federal Migratory Bird Permit from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. go to their website to see details.
In order to purchase or sell any game animals you need a Fur Buyers Permit from the ODNR. Contact them for details and regulations.
We encourage you to join the OTA. It only helps to keep you up to date and improve your technique.
Feel free to call any Board Member with questions.
